I finished reading the book of Job last month, but I'm still studying my way through it. It's not a book you can just read and then forget about. I just came upon this passage in a commentary I'm reading on Job and saw myself. Just replace Job's name with my own.
Job is restless, but he is not resigned to his fate. He knows there is something terribly wrong. We will see this unrest is itself a paradoxical sign of hope. Job has not given up; he will not give up. He is on a journey, we might almost say, through crucifixion to resurrection. But before the resurrection there must be this terrible loneliness as he is increasingly isolated not only from other human beings but from his own past and future. He hangs suspended between past and future, utterly alone and utterly without the experience of hope in his heart. And yet he will not give up. - Christoper Ash in Job: The Wisdom of the Cross
I may be restless with certain situations or questions of the future in my life, but I have not given up. I may be suspended between the past and the future, but I have not given up. There is a journey from crucifixion to resurrection, where loneliness finds comfort, but it won't be there for long. Thank God for the resurrection and the hope that the Cross brings. Darkness and loneliness no longer have a place in my life. I am no longer resigned to my true fate, death; instead I find life in Christ. That is a reason to sing, a reason to rejoice.
One thing I have learned from studying Job is that even in the darkest of times, or the hardest of times, when we feel like no one is there, Jesus is there. The Gospel is there. Hope is there. Christ is my hope; therefore making Him my future and the Redeemer of my past.
Will you take a lesson from Job and be restless, but not resign?
Job never gave up, even through all of the loss and suffering he endured. Let us not give up either.

Happy Friday, everyone! Every other Friday, I share snapshots that I have taken in and around Mobile. Not only do I want to share with you guys this place, but it will help me to get out and explore. I love the idea of "snapshots", because sometimes they are quick and can be hurried, but always capture a memory. My photos may not always be perfect or frame-worthy, but I hope you enjoy them. I hope you enjoy seeing little glimpses of Mobile and I hope this encourages you to get out, explore your town, and take advantage of all your place may offer.
Since it's the holiday weekend and we are all out celebrating America and all things red, white, and blue, there is no new snapshot today. Instead, enjoy this time with family and friends! Maybe get out and be a tourist in your town and celebrate by going somewhere new. That's what I'm doing this weekend and I can't wait! If you do have some downtime today or this weekend and are missing all the snapshots of Mobile, you can always check out the gallery of photos featured so far! And you can always follow me on Instagram (my favorite place) to see them first! Happy 4th of July, everyone! It's my favorite holiday, so let's go celebrate it in style! Be safe, have fun, and see you next week!
What are your 4th of July plans?

Craving | Apple pie and ice cream. The past couple of years I've been wanting to start my own traditions and one of those is baking an apple pie for the fourth of July. And ever since the beginning of this week, just knowing that the fourth is this weekend has made my mouth water for an apple pie.
Grilling | Sadly, I have no access to an outside grill. But, I'll dream of steak and veggie kabobs, yummy, grilled hamburgers, and the all american hot dog. Listening | The top two replayed albums on my Spotify are Echosmith's album Talking Dreams and Vance Joy's Dream Your Life Away. Also, the cicada's are definitely back with their summer evening songs. Planning | For one of my college friends to visit and spend the fourth of July with me here in Mobile! I'm so excited to show her around, explore more of Mobile and keep being a tourist, and of course watch some spectacular fireworks! Decorating | Not much, although I would love to find a great summertime door decoration. I love something like this! And my roommate and I both have the same last initial, so something like this works perfectly.
July is one of my most favorite months - cookouts, fireworks, all things red, white, and blue, beach time, afternoon thunderstorms, ice cream, apple pies, all things summer. Not too mention my favorite holiday, the 4th of July. To me, July is the definition of summer and I can't wait to soak it all in. And hopefully with more trips to that place pictured below.
