Oh, hey guys! Why do I feel like it has been forever since I've been in blog world? One reason may be because this past weekend I realized just how old I'm getting. Last Friday, I drove to northern Alabama to spend the weekend with one of my college friends and help out with a lock-in her church was having. We ended up having 53 kids! And in true lock-in fashion, no one fell asleep!
When we got back to my friend's house Saturday morning, we both crashed as FRIENDS played in the background. We woke up about 3 hours later, went to Sonic, drove around, and then crashed again at her place. This pretty much repeated all the rest of Saturday.
Now, I'm back home and have a great desire to get back into my daily routine. So, get ready for the rest of this boring, life update known as Random Post #256.
FITNESS // WEIGHT LOSS // HEALTH // NUTRITION // LIFESTYLE
Guys, I feel like it has been forever since I have worked out. And I know that first workout back is going to be rough. But, I'm feeling the effects of not working out. Mainly, my energy level is WAY down. That is the one thing that I'm missing the most.
When it comes to eating, I've been pretty good in sticking with it. Despite going out of town these past few weekends, I've been surprised at myself with the things I've refrained from. Now, I must admit, there was some fast food consumed this weekend and maybe a Sonic Blast. Yet, not nearly close to the amount I used to eat all the time. And when eating "real" meals, I've still gotten my fruits and veggies in. I also only had 2 soft drinks this past weekend. Guys, that was a first in a long time! I've cut out all soda and I must say, they weren't as good as I remembered.
Goals for this week: Some form of exercise everyday and record all meals in MyFitnessPal. Get back to the August challenges. (revamped to fit the remaining days)
JOB UPDATE // INCOME // FINANCIAL STATUS // MONEY
Still a no-go on jobs. I applied for a job in my town 2 weeks ago and never heard anything back. So, I'm back to searching around and praying something opens up quickly. I have a part-time job lined up for later in the Fall, but I need something right now. And part-time or full-time doesn't matter to me. I just need some money coming in.
My students loans recently got switched to another company and they are starting back up again this month. Thankfully, the amount is reasonable for me, but I still need a way to keep paying them!
Needless to say, I am VERY stressed when it comes to thinking about money, student loans, bills, savings.
Goals for this week: Apply, apply, apply. Pray, pray, pray.
Starting tomorrow, on Tuesdays, I'm going to be featuring blog posts that answer 11 Questions Every Twenty-Something Needs to Answer. These are questions asked by Paul Angone. For more information about this series, check out this post!
Well, that is all for now, guys. Hope you guys come back tomorrow to check out the new series! :) Now, I'm going to go start working on these goals!

Hating Friday? Why, that is un-American you might say!
And you would probably be right. But, let me explain.
You see, Fridays are my weigh-in day. Dun. Dun. Dun. Yep. Fridays I start my day by stepping on the scale. And believe me, it is not always the best way to start a weekend. There are days where I dread stepping up and seeing what that number is. But, I know that number doesn't define me and the scale isn't everything. Then, there are Fridays where I feel confident that I did all I could. I stuck to my diet and I got my workouts in, I was consistent. This Friday was not one of those days. There have been days this week where I have blown my diet and I worked out only once this week. So, needless to say I wasn't anxious to see what the number was this morning. So, I stepped up and there was no change since last week! Which is definitely discouraging somewhat, but if I didn't gain, hey I'm happy.
Then, I got a reminder on my phone to take measurements today. What?! Are you kidding me. I just got done weighing in and now I'm supposed to take body measurements. Ugh. Not something I wanted to do. But, I know that in order for me to keep up with my progress, my weight and measurements are something I need to know and record. I weigh in every week, but I take measurements every two weeks. I really didn't think that my measurements had changed, but they did! Not majorly, but you gotta start somewhere, right?
Here's the final update: 2.6 lbs down and 8 inches lost.
And now I can finally say:
Make sure to follow me! :)
Did this video come into mind when you read the post title?
Uhm, that red-head at 3:14.
Or what about this rendition? GLEE fans anyone??
Oh, Jane Lynch.
Despite whatever "physical" they were singing about, I'm definitely talking about the physical as in fitness and nutrition. While I was living in California, I was doing really well on being active and eating healthy. It was much easier there, since everyone around you is pretty much a health and fitness nut. Plus, with a place like that, how could you not get outside and be active? I knew that coming home was going to be a challenge for me. In Tahoe, I got my workout in by hiking a mountain, going to waterfalls, kayaking, walking beside the lake, you know, doing things that I love and find enjoyable. Here in Alabama where I live, I can't easily do those things. It's much easier for me to just stay inside and sit.
I am by NO means a fitness guru or instructor, I'm still learning a lot myself! I'm educating myself on what is good or bad, what will help me and finding things I will like. As much as I wish that reading articles and repinning things on Pinterest counted as a workout and led to me getting healthy, it doesn't. I also need accountability. Here is where the new FITNESS tab above comes in.
What you will find on the FITNESS page:
So, there it is. There is my FITNESS page. Hope you will stick around for the journey! I leave you with some of my goals.
The other night I was hungry for a snack. After looking around for something yummy, I stumbled upon some peanuts sitting lonely on the counter. Okay, well maybe they were not lonely, but I was hungry. So, I opened up that blue container and preceded to eat a handful of salty, delicious peanuts. Boy, were they salty. After that handful was quickly gone, I got another...
See, since embarking on a new journey of healthy eating, I have been reading fitness and nutrition articles almost obsessively and many of them say the same thing: limit your sodium/salt intake. Do they know how hard that is??! Sure it is easy to write that down, but actually living it out? Watching your salt intake is a hard thing to measure! Many foods today, natural and certainly processed, have different levels of salt and if I tried to journal every amount of salt I took in, I would quickly drive myself crazy (props to those who are able to do this and if you have any helpful tips, please e-mail them to me).
Now, I have been limiting my salt intake for awhile and I can definitely tell a difference. I am not adding extra salt to my foods, I intentionally look for "lower sodium" labels, I buy my savory snacks unsalted. Yet, I still felt like there was more that I could do. So imagine my excitement when I got an e-mail on the subject in my inbox . In one of the weekly Jillian Michaels' e-mails I receive, there was an article with tips on how to cut the salt from your diet! Brilliant! I quickly read the tips wanting to know what I was already doing right and ways I could further limit my salt intake.
If you have been looking for ways to limit your salt intake, just look below and say "adiós" to salt!
