Scattered Thoughts

12/11/2013

Comments

Guys, I have so many thoughts floating through my head. So many posts that need to be written.

Singleness during the holidays.

Weight Loss/Fitness Journey and getting back on track.

Advent! It's the time to celebrate the birth of Christ and anticipate His second coming!

There is a particular country that has been on my heart a lot lately. What is it about that place? Will I ever get there?

The Big 2-5 is approaching faster and faster. 16 days guys!

2013. What a journey it has been. 2014, what are you going to hold.

See, so many thoughts going around. And life is still happening with two jobs, church duties, family life, and finding rest somewhere in there. I promise I'm not just going to leave you hanging. These posts are coming soon! :)

In the meantime, check out the FITNESS page for a small, quick update!

Also, look on the sidebar for TWO Polished Arrow buttons that you can get for your blog and keep an eye on the SPONSOR tab above for ways to start button swapping with me in 2014!

Happy Wednesday friends! Hope you have a wonderful day!
Now I'm off to run errands and eat lunch before I head to work!

Love This, Not That.

12/10/2013

We all have little quirks. We all have pet peeves.
We all have things that make us unique and maybe crazy.
We all have things we love and we all have things we don't love.
Well, some things I love and some things I don't love can sometimes seem contradictory.
Just see what I mean below.

Picture

I Love Orange Juice. Like I could drink it all the time and whenever I do pour a glass, I can down it in about 2.5 seconds. Okay, maybe not that fast, but still. I down the first glass and then quickly pour myself another!

But, I Hate Oranges. I don't know what it is about oranges themselves, but I just don't like them. I don't like eating them, I don't like peeling them, I don't like the strong smell they give off. Yes, strange I know. But, I don't feel like this is much different than people who love ketchup, but hate tomatoes (or vice versa). I do like those little tangelos or Cuties though. Yes, I know I'm strange.

I Love To Read. I have tons and tons of books. I have books crowding my nightstand and a whole Rubbermaid tub in storage full of books. If I could have my own library, I would. I love to spend Saturdays at the thrift store perusing their books for hours. I love fantasy, young adult, the classics, non-fiction, biographies, etc. I love how books can take you to another world and make you fall in love with characters who seem like they could be your friend in real life.

But, I Hardly Ever Finish A Book. Yes, sad, but true. I can start a book, but it takes great discipline for me to finish a book. Sometimes I might hit a dry spell where I don't want to read at all. Or I want to quit reading my current book and start a new one, but I make myself read at least a couple of chapters a night to finish that book before I start a new one. I don't like to be reading more than 2 books at a time (one fiction, one non-fiction), but sometimes that doesn't happen.

I Love To Fly. Traveling is one of my favorite things of all time. I love sitting in airports and people watching. I love reading a book, watching a movie, or drawing on a long flight. And some of the best naps I have ever had in my life have been while I've been flying. I love the beauty I get to see while flying, from being above the clouds, to seeing the ocean and beach below, and especially flying over the snow-covered Rockies. Thankfully, I've only had one bad flight (turbulence wise), so I still enjoy flying.

But, I'm Afraid Of Helicopters. I can't explain it and I don't know why. Helicopters just freak me out. I hate watching them land or take off, but I still watch just in case something starts to go wrong and I can run. I love action movies, but it seems like every one of them has a helicopter crash. And that is horrific friends! I literally will cover my eyes and wait until someone tells me the scene/crash is completely over before uncovering my eyes. Taking a scenic helicopter ride has never been something I've wanted to do. I've always said that the only way I will ride in a helicopter is if I'm unconscious and unaware. (Hopefully this never happens.) P.S. I love the movie The Guardian, but it is hard for me to watch. LOTS of helicopter scenes in that movie folks. Also, love watching the Blue Angels, but the moment those copters start flying. Eh. I want to look away, but I HAVE to watch in case something happens. See above.

I Love Having My Room Cleaned and Organized. Everything is where I can find it, I can see my carpet, and it just seems to smell better. ha In order for me to get things done and be productive, the room I'm in has to be cleaned. You can only imagine what college was like for me. If I was going to have a cram sesh, my apartment HAD to be cleaned. And this wasn't as easy as it seems...see below.

But, My Room Is Usually Messy. Yeah, although I like it cleaned and organized, I usually forget what color my carpet is because it is buried beneath loads of laundry. Life happens, I get busy, and I often don't wash clothes until I'm down to my last pair of underwear. True story, friends.

I Fold My T-Shirts and Towels a Specific Way. Which I know that many people may have a specific way to do laundry and such, but if my t-shirts aren't folded the way I fold them, well then it just throws everything off. I will re-fold them even though I think it's nice someone else did my laundry (Thanks, Mom!), plus they fit in my drawer better the way I fold them.

But, I Hate Doing Laundry and Wrinkles Don't Bother Me. Whenever I do laundry, particularly towels, I just want to curl up and fall asleep in them. Especially when they are all warm and fresh from the dryer. I can easily throw my clothes in the washer and then transfer to the dryer, but once that dryer beeps, well, they might stay there for awhile. And then, if they get out of the dryer, they may stay piled up on the floor for a week until I finally fold them. The way I like it of course. I also have no problem wearing a shirt with wrinkles in it...to an extent of course.

I could probably keep thinking of more things that make me seem crazy, but do you guys really want to read this? ha
We all have things that make us silly and weird. After all, if we were all the same, life would be pretty boring wouldn't it?

I now want to know some silly // crazy // weird // quirky traits about you guys!
So, I tag Angela, Jessica, and Kari!
If you girls have already done a post similar to this, leave me the link in a comment below!
I would love to read it and learn more about you.

Speaking Of...

12/6/2013

Guys, in case you didn't know, it is already December! I'm so excited for this month because it contains Christmas and is my birthday month! I don't know how I'm going to react to this birthday (2-5). I'm excited and a bit terrified. Don't ask me why. Since I started blogging again, I've come across a lot of good posts that are perfect for birthdays. They are posts that give great life advice, ones that uplift, some that are funny, some give lists of what every twenty something should know how to do, etc. I've bookmarked them with the title "READ ON YOUR BIRTHDAY!" I can't wait to go back and read them. And don't worry, I will be sharing! :)

I have talked with so many friends lately about singleness and this journey that the Lord has me on right now.
I'm beginning to see that we are in consensus that the holidays are THE. WORST. time to be single.
Yes, there is a blog post about this coming soon.

Speaking of the holidays and Christmas. It is beginning to be that time for Christmas parties, playing Secret Santa, Dirty Santa, and going to Christmas parades. Also, time for more holiday food, food, and more food!
Tonight the Ladies' Ministry at my church is having our Christmas party and I made Cream Cheese Squares!
Check out the recipe here!

Speaking of baking. I'm not exactly a genius when it comes to the kitchen. I can follow a recipe, but most things I make are never really photo worthy. I can be pretty good at whipping something up out of nothing, but I want to know how to do things like make biscuits from scratch, bake a cheesecake. You know, real baking and cooking. I want to get away from a microwave!

As the year starts winding down, we start to think about a new year and "resolutions" that we want to start (and maybe keep). Well, since I'm also turning 2-5 this year, I've been thinking about things that I want to learn how to do. You've probably seen lists like 100 in 1,000 days. Or 30 before 30. Bucket lists are popular and fun! They help you think of things you've always wanted to do and it's always fun to check things off a list.
Well, I've been thinking about starting my own 30 before 30 list!
It's going to have some really random things on it, but be on the lookout for it soon!

Something else that I'm going to start in 2014 is blog sponsoring!
I don't have money to financially support someone and their blog, but I do have blog space. So, thanks to some brainstorming and advice from Kiki, I'm going to be doing a button swap for each month!
This is all still in the first phase of progress, but be on the lookout soon for more information!
I'm excited to grow and share this place with more people and get to know more of you who are hanging around.
You guys make this place fun. Thank you for that!
:)

Let me be real with you guys real quick.
Although I just got back from 10 months in CA serving, I greatly want to go on a mission trip somewhere. My job in CA was just that. A job. I loved it, don't get me wrong. But, going and serving on a mission trip is so different than a job. You get to be somewhere for a week (or more) and just love on the people you are with. You get to serve them, help them with something they need, hang out with their kids, talk with them. Although it can be hard to leave at the end of the trip, I always leave feeling refreshed and revived. Ready to then start serving the people in my town again. I guess, when I'm in one place for awhile and I start to develop a routine, it becomes just that, routine. I start getting into the mindset that I have to do this, not I get to do this.
That is something that is different when it comes to a mission trip. I get to get away and do what I really love.
Travel, people, kids, culture, spreading the love of Christ. It's all what is at the core of my being.
And I just want to go.
But, I'm trying to remember this quote by Jim Elliot:
